Dental Bone Grafting in California

Bone grafting occurs when a California prosthodontist needs to perform an implant procedure and there isn't enough bone material in the jaw to accomodate the procedure. in cases where the bone isnt substantial enough, a bone graft must be done to support the base (screw) that needs to be inserted in the jaw bone. California implant specialists must, at times, graft bone onto existing jaw areas to promote support for other dental procedures. Bone for grafting comes from different sources, with the most common being from the patient themselves (from inside the mouth, hip, or leg bone at the knee.) Other sources for bone are from pigs, cows and cadavers. Alloplasts are synthetic bone created specifically for the surgery.
